Scrolvo guide

How to screenshot a whole WhatsApp Web chat

Use Scrolvo, a free Chrome extension, and capture the message list instead of the window. Choose Scrolling area, click the chat and press Capture the whole area. It loads earlier messages first, then scrolls the chat from the first message to the last and stitches it into one tall image.

WhatsApp Web's messages scroll inside the page, not the window. That's why ordinary full page screenshot tools only capture what's on screen.

Step by step

Screenshot a whole WhatsApp Web chat

  1. Open the chat

Add Scrolvo from the Chrome Web Store, then open the chat in WhatsApp Web in Chrome.

  2. Let Scrolvo load earlier messages

WhatsApp Web loads older messages only as you scroll up, but you don't have to: Load earlier messages first, in Capture settings, is on by default, so Scrolvo scrolls the chat up until no older messages load. To capture only recent messages, turn it off and scroll up to the first message you want; Scrolvo then captures from what's loaded.

  3. Pick the message list

Click the Scrolvo icon in the toolbar to open the side panel. Choose Scrolling area, then click anywhere in the messages. The side panel shows a preview of what you picked.

  4. Press Capture the whole area

Scrolvo loads earlier messages, then scrolls the chat from the first message down and stitches every shot into one image. Press Stop here while it's loading to start from what has loaded.

  5. Save or edit it

Click Download to save the capture as a PNG, or Edit to save it as a JPG or PDF. With Scrolvo Pro, the editor also crops it, adds arrows, boxes or text, or blurs private details first.

  • Free captures are up to 150 shots long. Scrolvo Pro goes up to 1000, for very long chats.
  • Chrome lets extensions take about two screenshots per second, so a long chat takes a little time.
FAQ

Questions and answers

Why does a normal full page screenshot only show part of the chat?

Because the chat scrolls inside the page. The window doesn't scroll, so a tool that scrolls the window captures one screen. Scrolling area tells Scrolvo to scroll the message list instead.

Can I hide names and phone numbers before I share it?

Yes, with Scrolvo Pro ($10/month or $100/year). The editor's blur tool hides names, emails and numbers. The free plan saves the capture as a PNG, JPG or PDF, without editing.

Does Scrolvo upload my chat?

No. Screenshots and page content are processed on your computer and never uploaded. The only exceptions are ones you choose: an AI edit on Pro + AI sends just the image or area you're editing to Google's Gemini API, and a share link uploads that one capture until the link expires.
