Scrolvo guide

How to screenshot a long Slack conversation

Open Slack in Chrome and use Scrolvo, a free Chrome extension. Choose Scrolling area, click the messages and press Capture the whole area. It loads earlier messages first, then scrolls the conversation and stitches it into one tall image. To capture a thread, click inside the thread instead.

Slack's messages scroll inside the page, not the window, so ordinary full page screenshot tools only capture what's on screen.

Step by step

Screenshot a long Slack conversation or thread

  1. Open Slack in Chrome

Add Scrolvo from the Chrome Web Store, then open your Slack workspace in Chrome and go to the channel, message or thread.

  2. Let Scrolvo load earlier messages

Slack loads older messages only as you scroll up, but you don't have to: Load earlier messages first, in Capture settings, is on by default, so Scrolvo scrolls the channel or thread up until no older messages load. To capture only recent messages, turn it off and scroll up to the first message you want; Scrolvo then captures from what's loaded.

  3. Pick the message list

Click the Scrolvo icon in the toolbar to open the side panel. Choose Scrolling area, then click anywhere in the messages, or in the thread.

  4. Press Capture the whole area

Scrolvo loads earlier messages, then scrolls the messages from the first one down and stitches every shot into one image. Slack removes messages far off screen, so Scrolvo waits for each part to redraw before every shot. Press Stop here while it's loading to start from what has loaded.

  5. Save or edit it

Click Download to save the capture as a PNG, or Edit to save it as a JPG or PDF. With Scrolvo Pro, the editor also crops it, adds arrows, boxes or text, or blurs private details first.

  • Free captures are up to 150 shots long. Scrolvo Pro goes up to 1000.
  • Scrolvo Pro adds blur, a highlighter and numbered steps, for screenshots you share at work.
FAQ

Questions and answers

Can I capture the Slack desktop app?

No. Scrolvo is a Chrome extension, so it captures Slack in Chrome. Open your workspace in the browser to capture it.

Can I capture just a thread?

Yes. Open the thread, choose Scrolling area and click inside the thread instead of the channel. Only that list is captured.

Can I hide names before I share it?

Yes, with Scrolvo Pro ($10/month or $100/year). The editor's blur tool hides names, emails and numbers. The free plan saves the capture as a PNG, JPG or PDF, without editing.
