How to screenshot a whole Messenger or Instagram chat

Open the conversation on the web in Chrome, at messenger.com, facebook.com/messages or instagram.com/direct, and use Scrolvo, a free Chrome extension. Choose Scrolling area, click the messages and press Capture the whole area. Scrolvo loads earlier messages first, then scrolls from the first message down and stitches it into one tall image.

Messenger and Instagram load older messages only as you scroll up, inside the page, so ordinary full page screenshot tools capture one screen. Scrolvo scrolls the chat up until no older messages load, then captures all of it.

Step by step

Screenshot a whole Messenger or Instagram chat

  1. Open the chat on the web

    Add Scrolvo from the Chrome Web Store, then open the conversation in Chrome: on messenger.com or facebook.com/messages for Messenger, or instagram.com/direct for Instagram.

  2. Pick the message list

    Click the Scrolvo icon in the toolbar to open the side panel. Choose Scrolling area, then click anywhere in the messages.

  3. Press Capture the whole area

    With Load earlier messages first on in Capture settings (it is by default), Scrolvo scrolls up until no older messages load, then scrolls down to the newest and stitches every shot into one image. Press Stop here while it's loading to start from what has loaded.

  4. Save or edit it

    Click Download to save the capture as a PNG, or Edit to save it as a JPG or PDF. With Scrolvo Pro, the editor also crops it, adds arrows, boxes or text, or blurs private details first.

  • Turn off Load earlier messages first in Capture settings to capture only the messages already loaded.
  • Free captures are up to 150 shots long. Scrolvo Pro goes up to 1000, for chats that go back years.

Can I capture the chat in the phone app?

No. Scrolvo is a browser extension, so it captures Messenger and Instagram on the web in Chrome or Edge on your computer.

Can I hide names and profile pictures before I share it?

Yes, with Scrolvo Pro ($10/month or $100/year). The editor's blur tool hides names, pictures and numbers. The free plan saves the capture as a PNG, JPG or PDF, without editing.

Does Scrolvo upload my messages?

No. Screenshots and page content are processed on your computer and never uploaded. The only exceptions are ones you choose: an AI edit on Pro + AI sends just the image or area you're editing to Google's Gemini API, and a share link uploads that one capture until the link expires.
